Blog Post #6: Antiwar Reporting
You may or may not notice a trend in my philosophy, but here I am again presenting why capitalism leads to the death of human empathy.
Historically, greed is consistently the motivator for war. But to pull off a war, you need propaganda. War isn't fought by a single person— it requires command, production, resources, and thousands of foot soldiers. And as always: money.
The cost of a war isn’t just metaphorical, it’s expensive. And that price is paid through the tax of the people. “The war with Iran has depleted Pentagon funding, and the shock to the oil economy will have a direct impact on the fertilizer market farmers depend on.” “The new “$1.5 trillion funding target tracks typical military bureaucratic logic” where only “$11.1 billion would go to US farmers”.
That’s why wartime propaganda is so intense: it needs public support and funding.
It's no secret oil is an incredibly sought after resource. But surely there's no coincidence that the targeted nation happens to sit on massive reserves of it? And when world committees call for ceasefires and the
US opposes the vote, that definitely doesn't have anything to do with America profiting as a major arms supplier, right?
This is all, of course, hypothetical. Legally, I am not implying anything: I’m just asking some questions. And if any future lawyer were to cite this post, I would not imply that to be an example of restricting free speech. I love America, and I request the hypothetical jury read this in its entirety (btw Your Honor, you look great).
In the Progressive Era, the government silenced antiwar dissent by throwing protestors in jail. Today's attack on free speech looks different: it's built directly into The Algorithm™. Instead of crowded cells, we get a suspicious erasure of news.
There are no battle updates or videos in an era where everyone records everything. Conflict is simplified to ‘us vs the bad guys™’ and further details are practically nonexistent.
This is why you have to go deep diving on the internet to find antiwar news reports. The silence is intentionally crafted so people keep their heads down, keep working, and keep funding a war that never should’ve happened. They want people to essentially ‘shut up and give us your money’ but with a patriotic spin.
War is irreversible and devastating to homes, land, and culture. It's not a decision to make frivolously. But when war is driven by the greed of a few, those benefiting will do whatever it takes to make sure we don't notice their motives.
